New Year, New Forecast

With the welcoming of 2017, we also welcome new design forecasts and trends. We've researched these upcoming trends and chosen a few favorites to share.

With pointers on how to incorporate these into your own design, we are sure that you will want to start out the year by giving your home a refreshing new look!

Green.

Green is in. As we wave goodbye to navy and midnight blues, dark shades of green will be featured as the new must-have hue. Used as a backdrop, it will add depth to the walls and beautifully showcase tan leathers, furs, and brass accents. As an armchair or pillows, it will add a richness to your living spaces and bring in elements of the outdoors.

We love the idea of using an emerald velvet- on your headboard, your sofa, your throw pillows, or even as draperies. It makes a brilliant statement while not overpowering the room.

Tropical Prints.

Taking cues from the runways, it is clear that tropical patterns are a hit. You could go big and use a large-scale wallpaper, or play it safe and use this print on pillows or a roman shade. A tropical print will bring lots of life and color to your room.

A few of our favorite patterns:

Top Left: Harlequin Paradise

Top Right: Matthew Williamson Birds of Paradise

Bottom: Christian Lacroix for Designers Guild

Texture.

By adding texture into an interior, all of a sudden it becomes more warm and inviting. Texture is extremely important in any design, and the idea of mixing fabrics and materials is becoming more common. Texture can be incorporated into light fixtures, fabric, wallpaper, rugs, and everything in between.

A trend we've been seeing a lot of lately is draping sheepskin over chairs; we love this idea and it's an easy way to test the waters.

Grasscloth wallpaper is another great way to add tons of subtle texture.

Artisanal.

Homeowners have been obsessed with DIYs seen on Pinterest and Ikea hacks for years, so we are thrilled at the thought of people purchasing furniture as an investment again. Well-made pieces with visible craftsmanship and unique materials will add tons of character to your space. You don't have to splurge for great craftsmanship; hand-blown glass and local antique finds are easy updates for 2017.

Sites like Chairish make it easy for design lovers to buy & sell their special pieces.
